Gopal is a Franco-Ivorian artist born in 1973.
He creates works that combine painting, drawing, and mixed media, with a free, intuitive approach akin to mental collage: flat areas of color, signs, fragments, annotations, silhouettes, and objects.
His work draws on everyday life, depicting bottles, shoes, brands, tables, and contemporary still lifes to reveal the dissonances of our time: social contradictions, the absurdities of the contemporary world, dark humor, and sharp lucidity.
Gopal uses commercial imagery as a critical language, particularly questioning power relations and political heritage, while maintaining a vibrant, sensual, and immediately legible form of painting.
